A few back to school tips from Katie Everette, St. Matthews Elementary.
Number One:
Start putting your child to bed early and having them wake up early to practice for when they go back to school. Usually rolling back bedtime by 30 minutes and rolling back wake up time by 30 minutes is a great place to start.
Number Two:
Make sure that your child can carry all of their supplies or that you drop their supplies off early. Sending in a couple of extra boxes of Kleenex, Ziploc bags, or Clorox wipes, always goes along way with teachers!
Number Three:
If you have a child that is not used to wearing uniforms, make sure that they are able to Buckle, unbuckle, zip, and tie everything on their own. A lot of times little ones that have no experience with belts have bathroom accidents because they are unable to buckle and unbuckle their belts themselves.
Number Four:
Be patient with your teachers!
Remember that they have spent a lot of time, money, and energy preparing their classrooms. They want to know everything there is to learn about your child throughout the year, but often times are a little overwhelmed by small details about each individual child at back to school night. If your child has special circumstances, asked to schedule a conference with your teacher so that they can devote time just for you.
