Holiday Lights for a Cause

Making Spirits even Brighter at the Festival of Trees & Lights. Is that even possible?

The holiday season in Louisville kicks off with the annual Festival of Trees & Lights presented by Republic Bank, Nov. 13 to 15 at Louisville Slugger Field. The highlight of the event is the magnificent walk-through display showcasing hundreds of beautifully decorated trees, wreaths and décor, all available for purchase to benefit Norton’s Children’s Hospital through the Children’s Hospital Foundation. Each item is handcrafted and designed by a local volunteer or professional designer.

“The team is always thrilled to participate; it’s a great kickoff event for the holiday season,” said Barry Wooley. “The Festival of Trees & Lights provides my team and I the opportunity to leverage our talents to help a cause I very much believe in.”

Helping patients at Norton’s Children’s Hospital also is the inspiration for many other designers who participate in the Festival of Trees & Lights year after year. Volunteers spend months preparing decorations for their trees, wreaths and greenery of various sizes. Even local youth groups get involved by creating one-of-a-kind ornaments that are displayed and sold at the event. Once all of the items are in place at Louisville Slugger Field, the results are truly spectacular.

Each year, more than 5,000 guests attend this must-see event. Many come for a preview of the latest holiday design trends, and the decorations do not disappoint. Some items are inspired by a traditional Christmas; others are out-of-the-box.

All items will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the Norton Children’s Hospital neonatal intensive care unit. Nov. 13 to 15 at Louisville Slugger Field. Additional highlights of the event include a Jewish heritage display, skating rink, rideable train, free children’s activities, holiday entertainment, sweet treats and gifts. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $5 for children 12 and under and seniors 65+; and $8 for adults. For additional event information, visit
