Winter Skin Tips from Kaptivating Thoughts

5 Steps to Improve Your Winter Skincare Routine

We all know that the harsh winter weather can wreak havoc on our skin and leave it feeling dry and uncomfortable. These five simple steps will get your skin back to its glowing, healthy, summer look faster than the snow will melt away!

1. Sleep with a humidifier on.

The mix of cold weather outside and heated homes sucks all of the moisture out of the air and our skin. I sometimes wake up and can actually feel how painfully dry my skin is. That’s why this step is so important! Keeping moisture in the air will help lock in the hydration your skin craves during the colder months.

2. Use a body scrub.

I am OBSESSED with this Fresh Cocoa Body Exfoliant lately. The smell alone, stronger and better than a cup of coffee, is enough to wake you up in the morning. I use this scrub about once a week and love how smooth it makes my skin feel. Be sure to use a moisturizer or body butter afterwards, and you’ll be left with flawless, fresh skin.

3. Gloves are your new best friend.

Everyone knows how important it is to moisturize your hands, but my trick to really locking in the hydration is to wear gloves. If your skin is feeling really dull, lather your hands up with lotion at night and sleep with a pair of gloves on. I also like to put on a thick layer of lotion right before I leave for work in the mornings and wear gloves during my commute. You’ll be amazed at how soft your hands are after trying this trick!

4. Exfoliate!

Similar to a body scrub, exfoliating your face and even your lips will make a huge impact on your skin. Elf’s Lip Exfoliator works wonders and is designed like lipstick to make it mess-free (and it’s only THREE DOLLARS!). As for the face, St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub has been a trusted brand for so many people. I’ve been using it since high school and have always loved how clean and refreshed it makes my face feel.

5. Vaseline products are a necessity.

I can’t stress enough how much I love Vaseline Cocoa Radiant Body Gel Oil and Vaseline Lip Therapy. I will admit that the body gel oil feels as thick as it sounds but the results are truly outstanding. I like to use it after my body scrub and cover up in sweatpants and a long-sleeve t-shirt before bed to let it really sink in overnight. The Lip Therapy is another must-have and can even be used as an everyday lip balm.
