My story
Event: | Louisville Walk |
Date: | Saturday, May 12, 2018 |
Team: | Team Dewey Kickin’ ALS |
Amy was a Dancing With Prospect Stars Judge in 2017 and this year she has been brought back, this time as a Star!
Amy’s been a staple in the radio and
television market in Kentuckiana for over 15 years. A Louisville native and a Western Kentucky University graduate, Amy never meets a stranger. She loves people and loves to talk. She is sassy, loves having fun, does not
have a serious bone in her body and is very adventurous.
Amy worked in television for WAVE 3 TV and she hosted Shopping Kentuckiana. After years in television, she became the morning and afternoon drive time voice
on several radio stations. She recently came back to the business after putting her career on hold to stay home to raise her 3 boys who are now in school – ages 14, 12 and 9. Currently Amy is the one waking you up with that country twang of hers on 97.5 WAMZ Corey and Mornings, an iHeart Radio Station.
Amy has chosen to dance for the The ALS Association Kentucky Chapter, in this years 2018 Dancing with the Prospect Stars competition, in hopes to raise awareness for a disease most people think affects only the elderly population. In fact, that’s what Amy thought it was until 3 years ago when her young, vibrant, 42 year old friend, Carrey Dewey, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, ALS. This disease has no cure and the life expectancy is only 2-5 years.
In her own words, “I have watched ALS completely rob my friend’s family of the mother and wife they once knew. This disease attacks anyone. It shuts down your arms, legs, hands, mouth, every part of your body except your brain which is left untouched to ponder how such a brutal disease can be ignored and underfunded. It is completely heartbreaking. With no cure and a deficit in funds for research compared to other causes this disease will continue to rob families of their loved ones. Please join me as we help raise money for not just my friend Carrey but for everyone battling ALS.”
Why We Need Your Help
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to bring help and hope today!
We will be seeing you there!! #ALS #CHARITY #NONPROFIT #DANCING #WEDANCE #HEALTHYLIVING #SOSOUTHERNATHEART
