Community Foundation’s Give For Good Louisville returns September 13
Last September, our community did something remarkable. We came together on our biggest day of local giving to raise in excess of $4.6 million for more than 500 local nonprofit organizations – in just 24 hours. In such divisive times, it shows what is possible when we come together to focus on the people and organizations that bring out our very best and the universal human desire for the well-being of the people we love and the world in which we live. Whether we’re passionate about caring for children, making sure that animals find their forever homes, ensuring our community has vibrant arts, educating our children, honoring our veterans, or so much more, our greater Louisville community rises to the occasion to be something bigger than each individual.
Give For Good Louisville returns September 13 from midnight to 11:59 PM when the Community Foundation of Louisville hosts the 5th annual biggest day of local giving. Whether through donations of $10 or $10,000, people will answer the call to open their hearts and their wallets to show what is possible when everyone comes together.
“Everyone wants to make a difference,” said Cara Baribeau, Vice President of Marketing & Communications for the Community Foundation and the project lead for Give For Good Louisville. “A donation is so much more than the monetary amount, it’s what that donation becomes; $10 that becomes sound for the child who gets batteries for their hearing aid, $60 that becomes safe water for a family through a lifetime water filter, and $125 that becomes an evening of dance and joy for Veterans with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries, just to name a few examples. The giving day is just the conduit to help people make the difference they want to see happen.”
“This day is always one of the most powerful examples of our community rallying together to be a force for good,” said Susan Barry, President & CEO of the Community Foundation. “At the Foundation we believe that anyone can be a philanthropist and this day makes it easy for everyone to see how we can have a big impact on our community by each person just doing what they can.”
To provide even more incentive to donate on September 13, the Community Foundation, its sponsors, and partners are offering an even larger Bonus & Prize Pool this year. A total of over $340,000 will be earned by participating nonprofits, which is an increase of more than $50,000 from the previous year. This includes bonus pools, strategic prizes, the ever popular Delta Dental Golden Tickets and, new this year, Delta Dental Smile Prizes for organizations that provide oral health care. Included in this are also three proportionate match pools for southern Indiana-based nonprofits from the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, Bales Foundation, and Horseshoe Foundation. And, in addition to small, medium, and large nonprofit grand prize category sizes for first through fifth place for most dollars raised and most unique donations, this year we have a new grand prize category for “micro” nonprofits (under $49,000 in revenue). A full description of the Bonus & Prize Pool can be found here.
Everyone is invited to witness the incredible energy this day brings at the Midday Nonprofit Rally at Fourth Street Live from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM where hundreds of the participating nonprofits will gather to showcase and be recognized for their work. The celebration includes live performances, food trucks, remarks from Mayor Greg Fischer, live leaderboard updates, and prize announcements. In addition to the Midday Nonprofit Rally, there will be over 25 other events taking place throughout the community in celebration of the giving day. A full schedule of events can be found here.
As we get closer to September 13, the question is what will our community come together to accomplish this year? Can we break $5 million in our fifth year? When we pause to think about how we can each use a gift to change a life, change our community, and change the energy in this world, anything is possible.
